Lavanderie is a beautiful, historic, 19th-century Cottage enclosed in a private gated garden right in the heart of San Antonio. Literally across the street from the world famous Riverwalk and within walking distance (less than 5 min) from great shopping, restaurants, and bars. Only a 10 min walk from the World Heritage Alamo and a 1/2 mile from the Blue Star Arts Complex. Great for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers, modern convenience in a historic setting!

Located on the estate of the Gustav Giesecke House in the King William Historic District of San Antonio, Lavanderie is a perfect romantic getaway or experience as something other than your traditional boring hotel room. It features the original claw-foot tub/shower in the bath and original hard wood floors.
The bedroom houses a comfortable queen-sized bed with pillow top mattress. When you'd like to freshen up, the bathroom has a nice shower with thick, fluffy, super soft, oversized towels and soaps, and shampoos/conditioner.
Gustav Giesecke and his bride, Anna Francisca Groos, built a Victorian frame home and wash house on this property in 1889. The original home was demolished in 1915 when they expanded the property and built the large, brick, two-story, Arts-and-Crafts house (designed by Herff and Jones, a notable local architectural firm of the era) which now stands as the main home on the estate. Lavanderie is the Victorian wash house that was converted into a guest cottage in 1950 and renovated in 2010.
This a snug comfortable space to get away and relax of space to relax. The renovations added a living/dining space and small kitchen, 32" flat panel TV with local channels and free Netflix. The kitchen is well appointed with refrigerator, range/oven, microwave, all necessary cooking utensils, coffee maker, plates, glasses, etc. to enjoy your own home-cooked meals, if you choose to cook. The entrance to the Riverwalk is right across the street. Parking is free, but only available on the street.
Since 1889, only two families have owned this property. The magnificent pecan and cypress trees on the property are believed to be centuries old. Native plants fill the lush garden surrounding Lavanderie, providing a haven for wild birds. It's a small, yet warm and comfortable retreat (500 sq. ft.) for you, or you and a loved one.

You can come and go as you like and there's an electronic lock, so there are no keys to keep up with!

On a quiet street, in the elegant King William Historic District, the Lavanderie sits in a private, gated garden, on one corner of the Gustav Giesecke estate grounds. The neighborhood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as one of San Antonio's oldest and most architecturally significant areas. The grand houses of this neighborhood were built by successful German immigrants on the land bordering the San Antonio River and formerly farmed by the Spanish missions. So, right across the street you'll arrive at the start of the world-famous San Antonio Riverwalk which offers shopping, dining and entertainment for all tastes. Feel free to stroll the area. Welcome to your perfect romantic escape.
If you want to ride, taxis are available anytime and start around $15 to get anywhere else in town. I prefer Uber, which is a private driver service. You'll find information when you arrive for $20 off your first few rides! But once you're here, everything you're likely to want to do is within a short walk on the Riverwalk. Enjoy your stay!
*Please note: One night stays are only valid for Sunday through Thursday nights, weekends are a minimum of two nights.
Free parking is available on the street in front of the property (city imposed 2 hour limit between 7 am and 6 pm) or one block away on one of the side streets (with no city imposed limits).
The current owners of the estate are not actively involved in this listing. So if booked, please respect their privacy and do not disturb.
Quiet hours run from midnight to 6 am.
